Designed as a loose assembly of boxes of varied human scale materials unified with wrapping zinc elements, Howard Residence is located in a rapidly changing North York neighbourhood. The custom modern home boasts a richly integrated interior and exterior design with ample natural lighting and connection to its private landscape.

Organised around a central floating steel staircase (capped with clerestory windows and articulated on the outside with a folded zinc element), the house is neatly laid out into semi-public, private and family zones.

The house combines urban sophistication, human scaled design and connection to landscape to create a simultaneously beautiful and comfortable environment. The street presence of the garage has been minimized by means of a custom garage door clad and detailed to blend into the adjacent walls. At the rear, the ground floor living and dining areas open to a sheltered private patio via large floor to ceiling sliding glass walls.
